In Crossover, WashU Dismantles North Park

Washington University’s Contra took North Park University’s Lost Boys to task in the second half of Free State Classic’s crossover round, soundly defeating them, 15-8.

The first half was relatively a back and forth affair that saw Contra take advantage half at 8-6.

The second half started out relatively calm and neither team made a turnover for the first four points of the game. With the score at 10-8, Washington made the first turnover of the half, but quickly got it back to make it 11-8. Then Washington and North Park got into a turnover fest, with seven combined, and Washington came out on top 12-8.

From there Contra was able to get a pair of d’s and some North Park miscommunication to finish off the game on a 5-0 run.

“We were able to stay up in the beginning and in the second half we really turned it on,” said Washington captain Luke Ding.

Kansas Takes Down Truman State

In a match up featuring former Ozark Conference rivals, Kansas defeated Truman State, 13-6.

Kansas took the lead in the beginning of the game by pulling to start, getting a layout d and then punching it across the goal line. From there Truman and Kansas traded points to make it 2-2. After a timeout by Kansas the HorrorZontals would score the next three points without committing a turnover to stretch the lead to 5-2. Kansas would go on to take half at 8-3.

“We tried to come to come out with the intensity that we brought for the first two games,” said Kansas captain Joe Young. “We let the game get a little bit away from us, but after we focused back down we were able to take control of the game.”

The second half started with Kansas scoring the first point again, but Truman State would score three in-a-row to make the game 9-6. Kansas would again call a timeout to stop Jujitsu’s momentum and score three in-a-row themselves to make it 12-6.

The next point would be one of the worst in ultimate history — with both sides combining for 23 turnovers and a point that went just shy of 25 minutes. Kansas would eventually finish the point just seconds after hard cap expired to win the game 13-6.
